Understanding product terminology

New to the Product Builder? Here is a list of terminology used throughout the application and their definitions, to help you configure and manage your products with ease

Product Details

Name

The name of your offering. This name is visible to Guests and Staff when making a booking. This is also the name used internally within reports.


For example:

  • City Bike Tour
  • 2-hour Kayak Rental
  • Sunset Yoga Session

SKU

This is the unique identifier for the product. By default, this string includes the product name and a unique combination of letters and numbers but can be customized.

  • citybiketour
  • kayak-rental-001
  • sunsetyoga

Category

Product categories allow you to group like products on the booking page and for reporting purposes.


For those familiar with products, these equate to product categories.

For example:

  • Bike Tours
  • Kayak Rentals
  • Yoga Sessions

Visibility

Product visibility determines who can view and book your products.


Products are visible to one of the three audiences.

  • Everyone - Product can be booked by both Guests and Staff.
  • Staff Only - The Product can only be booked by Staff.
  • In packages only - Products can only be added to packages with other products during checkout.

Sort Order

The order in which your product displays within a category on your Booking page.


By default, products are displayed in descending order - the higher the number, the more prominent the placement of the offering. Products can be displayed in ascending order via Booking Page layout settings.

Product Inventory

Parameters

Your product depends on these resources (equipment, spaces, modes of transportation...) to be booked. Individual patameters are tracked by their SKU.

For example:

  • Mount _Bike_1
  • Single_Kayak_1
  • Bus_1
  • KayakPaddle200_1
  • LifeJacketSmall_1

(Parameter) Maintenance Time

Configured with the booking unit. This is the time at the beginning and end of each booking set aside for maintenance.


For example:

if you need to inflate bike tires, rinse out kayaks, service buses, or sanitize life jackets.

Availability

Availability determines when and how the product can be booked using availability events.


Base options include:

  • Day - Used for full-day or multi-day activities.
  • Night - Used for morning check-outs. Most used for accommodation.
  • Hourly - Used for bookings with flexible start/end times. Most used for space or equipment rental.
  • Timeslots - Used for products with fixed start/end times. Most used for tours and activities.

Availability Events

Used to determine when the product is available for booking based on specific dates. Includes the option to modify the price, apply rules and set minimum and maximum Guests per booking.


This is commonly used for scheduling seasonal, weekly, or single-day availability.

For example:

  • standard rates

  • weekday rates
  • holiday rates

Product events allow you to schedule when products are closed for booking.


For example:

  • scheduling time off
  • slow seasons
  • holidays

Guest types

Guest types with a quantity control determine to whom and how many people your product is available.


For example:

You can provide a simple option for number of Guests.

  • Guest

Or provide several options that correspond to specific criteria such as age.

  • Adult
  • Child
  • Youth
  • Senior

Product Pricing

Rate Type

How the price of a product is calculated when the product is added to a booking.


Choose to calculate Per Allocation (Per day, per hour, per timeslot...) or Per Booking.

Custom Rates

Configure pricing increases or decreases, by dollar value or percentage, based on the booking duration and applied to the base rate configured for your product.


Choose between single and multiple duration rates.

Base Rates

These are the primary rates associated with your product. Availablity rates and custom rates can be applied to base rates to modify the price.


These provide the same flexibility as base prices, pricing by parameter and group pricing with products.

Choose between:

  • Pricing per product
  • Pricing per Guests
  • Pricing per product and Guest
  • Group pricing using product rates
  • Group pricing per Guest
